Gently peel back years of damage from the skin:
FAQs about our most versatile, customizable treatment
When old skin cells build up on the surface, your formerly glowing, evenly-toned, and otherwise healthy-looking skin may appear dull, “tired,” mottled, and feel leathery to the touch. The good news is White Onyx Medical Weight Loss & Aesthetics offers many ways to resurface the skin. By removing old skin cells, we bring new and unblemished ones to the surface. This process may be accomplished through advanced technologies (like lasers), mechanical means (like microdermabrasion), and customized solutions or formulations (such as a chemical peel).
As your beacon for nonsurgical therapies to boost the skin’s health and appearance, our medspa in Gardner, Massachusetts, is spotlighting today’s highly versatile and attractive peel services for skin resurfacing.
How do chemical peels work?
Chemical peels help to renew the process of cell turnover, or the amount of time that it takes for new cells to journey from the lower layer of the epidermis to the top layer. As this process occurs, the old and damaged skin cells make way for the new ones and are shed. This process plays an important role in the overall tone, sheen, softness, and other qualities of our skin.
What makes chemical peels different from other types of resurfacing?
Light-based resurfacing involves applying a laser to resurface the skin. The energy from the laser generates therapeutic heat to produce beneficial changes deep within the skin. Some lasers also remove or abrade the surface of the skin. Microdermabrasion involves using special devices to mechanically exfoliate the skin. Chemical peels do not use devices to remove dead skin cells and/or to heal the skin from within; instead, special solutions or formulations are applied to encourage the removal of dead skin cells and to promote new ones and other beneficial processes.
What solutions are used?
The specific ingredients and formulations applied to your skin depend on a variety of factors, ranging from your specific skin care concerns and needs (sun damage, lines and wrinkles, and so on) to your skin type (sensitive, normal, oily, dry, or combo). Some peels are true “lunchtime” and “no-downtime” procedures. These light peels only affect the outermost skin. They can still get the results that you desire, but more treatment sessions are generally advised to do so. Medium-strength or stronger peels penetrate deeply into the skin. They support dramatic transformations in the appearance of even severe wrinkles and depressions, all in just one treatment session. However, they are not appropriate for all skin types. Furthermore, you will need to take time off of work to heal and focus on your recovery. White Onyx Medical Weight Loss & Aesthetics also uses a special brand of peels by PCA Skin®.
What are PCA peels?
These professional peels use blends of acids to improve everything from fine lines and wrinkles to hyperpigmentation (brown spots), redness, and acne breakouts. Their peels range from the very mild to those that support deep transformations and dramatic changes for “stubborn” skin conditions. Due to the range of potential options, these peels are particularly versatile and are even appropriate for individuals with sensitive skin!
