What do you mean by “medical weight loss”?
At White Onyx Medical Weight Loss & Aesthetics, our team is led by Dr. Liz Tateoka. We blend the creature comforts of a spa with the trusted capabilities and knowledge of a medical weight loss office. Guidance on a program to kickstart or add new life to weight loss efforts is well-informed by our extensive evaluation and diagnostics. Furthermore, Dr. Tateoka oversees your tailored weight loss plan at every step. There are many reasons a medically managed program works when “going at it alone” so often fails, at least over the long term.
Why can’t I lose the weight on my own?
Do not be discouraged! It can be a real challenge for anyone to try to lose weight without support. Often, people may fall prey to “fast fixes” in the form of potentially dangerous gimmicks or fad diets. Once the weight has been shed, it is easy to gain it back (and then some) because you are not starting with a healthy foundation to support sustained results.
Furthermore, it is not unusual to encounter plateaus where the scale no longer budges. At this point, it can be difficult to get motivated to continue this journey. This is where we can step in as “accountability partners.” Our solutions are also based on sound science, and we cater to your unique needs. What may be appropriate for one patient with excess weight may not be for another due to the underlying “source” of their stubborn pounds.
How do I get started?
We start with an initial (complimentary) consultation. During this visit, we will get to know your overall health status as well as any lifestyle factors that may have contributed to the weight gain. We will also discuss any pertinent info about the program with you, such as the time commitment associated with the program and costs. Speaking of which, we never want budgetary concerns to stand in the way of your best health. So, we are happy to discuss payment options such as CareCredit® financing to lift the cost burden off your shoulders as you work toward getting healthier and reducing your risk for things like diabetes and heart disease.
What can I expect from your program?
Generally, we ask for a minimum commitment of six months. This program is divided into two parts: the first eight weeks involve an initial visit with a nurse practitioner or registered nurse. During these two months, four additional visits will be scheduled, and will include guidance on diet, exercise, and medications (as appropriate). We will monitor your progress and make any adjustments as needed. The balance of four months can be summed up as our “monthly membership program,” which includes one visit a month to re-evaluate, provide medication refills, and continued support.
Why can’t I just take a weight loss medication?
At White Onyx Medical Weight Loss & Aesthetics, pharmaceuticals are but one piece of the puzzle. They are not the end-all or be-all. They must be complemented by a healthy lifestyle. That said, we can recommend a range of potential options here to support your healthy weight loss, including semaglutide and tirzepatide. These injectable medications help with appetite and are perhaps best known by the brand names Ozempic® and Monjuaro®. Other injectables may be formulated with B vitamins and L-carnitine to break down fat.
