What is microdermabrasion?
This is a skin resurfacing technique, where special handheld devices are used to gently remove the old skin cells that contribute to many signs of aging and environmental damage. As the skin is exfoliated, cell turnover is encouraged. Additionally, microdermabrasion triggers other beneficial processes deep within the skin. It encourages the renewal of collagen, the protein responsible for the firmness and overall plumpness of the skin. Due to this benefit, microdermabrasion may also be appropriate to address other types of concerns, such as fine lines, stretch marks, wrinkles, and scarring. With more collagen, the skin’s structural support is boosted, and these depressions or irregularities are no longer as apparent as they were.
How do you perform this treatment?
We use the DermaFrac® C system. A wand-like device is passed over the skin. Tissue within the treated area is exfoliated or removed with the help of special applicator tips and vacuum suction. This platform also features hundreds of micro-needles. The vacuum effect gently pulls up the skin so it is in contact with the tiny, ultra-fine needles. Patients don’t feel anything uncomfortable as this “hybrid” treatment goes to work to create tiny channels in the deeper layer of the skin (dermis). This step or feature is important because it allows our talented and experienced providers to apply special serums for maximum effectiveness. These products penetrate deeply into the skin. So, they can work optimally to clarify, hydrate, rejuvenate, lighten, brighten, heal, and more.
