What is neurotoxin treatment?
Neurotoxin is not any single procedure or product. It is a group of injectable products that are recommended to soften lines, furrows, and folds associated with the cumulative effects of making a facial expression. For instance, squinting and smiling can contribute to those wispy lines that extend outward from the corners of the eyes. This type of procedure is also most commonly known by the brand name BOTOX® Cosmetic. However, the crow’s feet mentioned here are not the only “treatable” concern or area for neurotoxins, just as BOTOX® is not the only product of its kind that may be recommended to smooth your lines.
How do neurotoxins work?
The product is injectable. So, one of our skilled injectors will apply the neurotoxin that is best for you into the specific “trouble area,” be it around the eyes, between the brows, or on the forehead. Once injected, this treatment resolves the underlying cause of expression lines at their source: muscle activity. The nerves send messages to the muscles, telling them to contract. Every time you express yourself with your face, a small groove forms underneath the skin’s surface. In youthful skin, lines are only seen while making the expression. But, due in part to the loss of elasticity and firmness within the skin, dynamic lines become static or permanent fixtures of the face in mature or aging skin. BOTOX® and its counterparts interfere with this muscle activity. A muscle that remains relaxed supports a smooth, unlined surface.
But will I still be able to move my face?
Yes! Your face will look smoother and more youthful. It will not look frozen or as if you have done something with your face. Technique does matter, though. It is essential to select a provider who is experienced with injecting neurotoxins. When injected properly and with the right dosing, only those muscles responsible for the expression line are treated, affected, and relaxed. There are dozens of individual muscles responsible for subtle expressions. So, when treated appropriately, you can still move the rest of your face normally. No one will ever know you’ve had treatment. You simply look more refreshed and well-rested.
Does it hurt?
