Transform Your Confidence: Discover the Benefits of PRP Therapy for Hair Restoration

At White Onyx Medical Weight Loss & Aesthetics, we appreciate that hair loss can have a profound effect on how you look and feel about yourself. The good news is that Dr. Liz Tateoka and our talented team in Gardner, Massachusetts, can restore hair growth and, in doing so, restore your sense of pride and confidence.

What do you use for hair restoration?

Our medical spa is invested in the latest technologies and training in advanced therapies and techniques. Our patients who experience hair loss can gain a new outlook on life as a result of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments.

What is PRP?

Platelets are a type of cell in the blood essential to clotting. Combined with liquid plasma, they contain factors that promote cell multiplication and healing. As a therapy, PRP has been used for decades in numerous medical treatments; to soften scars, tighten lax skin, treat joint pain, and of course, improve alopecia or hair loss.

How do you use PRP for hair loss treatment?

Plasma that has been enriched or concentrated with platelets is injected into the areas of the scalp that need hair regrowth the most. PRP is applied safely and comfortably to enhance blood flow and to activate the hair follicles. When stimulated, the hair grows through these sac-like chambers. PRP also restores the thickness and fullness of the hair by lengthening the growth phase. Because hair grows in cycles, a longer active or anagen phase helps to support renewed strands and slow shedding.

What can I expect on the day of treatment?

If we determine this form of hair restoration is right for you, the process starts by preparing the plasma. To enrich it with platelets, we first draw a small amount of blood. This characteristic makes PRP a particularly safe option because it is autologous and derived from your own blood. The risks of adverse reactions or rejection of the PRP are minimized. The components within your blood sample are separated by spinning it in a centrifuge machine. The treatment areas are numbed before injecting the prepared PRP into your scalp. You shouldn’t feel much, as the PRP is applied quickly with several injections. We will also advise on after-care in advance of your treatment.

When will I see results?

Results can vary considerably from person to person. However, it is generally advised to undergo treatment once every four to six weeks for three to six months. After the initial series of treatments is completed, you will move on to the maintenance phase (three to four treatment sessions for up to two years). PRP injections generally present a nonsurgical alternative to hair transplants, which makes them a low-risk, no-downtime option to power your goal look and support a renewed outlook on life.
